On the 25th of October, we screened two important documentaries that disseminate the perspectives of the Harakbut people and their territory. La Voz del Huito is a film directed by Rita Sanchez, Joaquina Izaguirre, Mara Corrales and produced by Karla Espinoza and the documentary “Wändari” is directed by Daniel Lagares Ramirez and Mariano Agudo, produced by Guarango films.

Synopsis of La Voz del Huito

Luis Tayori is an indigenous Harakbut descendant from the depths of the Peruvian amazon. Luis remembers his childhood and his grandparents’ memories as he seeks to find answers about the first Dominican incursions and his identity.

Synopsis of Wändari

Decades after initial contact, native communities in the Peruvian Amazon have succumbed to the main economic activity in the region: gold mining. Today they are torn between continuing this activity or defending their territory (Wändari).
